Reggio, Louisiana : ウィキペディア英語版 | Reggio, Louisiana
Reggio, also named Bencheque, is an unincorporated community belonging to Saint Bernard Parish, in Louisiana. Europeans settled there in the second half of the eighteenth century. It has a small Isleño population. == History ==
Saint Bernard Parish's early European settlers were Spanish families from Canary Island. They arrived between 1778 and 1784. "El Primer Asentamiento" (First Settlement) was from Toca villages in 1779. "El Segundo Establecimiento" was a second Canarian group. They named their settlement Benchijigua in honor of their home village of Benchijigua on the island of La Gomera. The number of Gomeros who migrated to Louisiana was 393 people, making up 85 families, most of them from Tenerife. With the arrival of French-speaking sugar planters to the region, the name of the village changed to Bencheque and then to Bencheque-Reggio.〔(St. Bernard Isleños. LOUISIANA'S SPANISH TREASURE.
